Our first 'cello case was commissioned in 1976.  Many of our earliest cases are still in daily use with orchestras and individual players around the world after 30 years or more.

 

Our Original ‘Cello Case has larger clearances between the 'cello and the case's shell than many other cases. It is vital that any case has adequate clearances all around the 'cello, including the often forgotten clearance above the bridge. The generous dimensions of our Original ‘Cello Case give good clearances for large instruments.

Like all our cases our Original ‘Cello Case can be made in carbon or fibreglass in a range of specifications. Our carbon composite cases have the strength and durability of fibreglass at not much more than half the weight.  We are often asked whether our 4.7kg / 10.4 lb carbon Original ‘Cello Case is as strong as our 8.7kg / 19.2 lb fibreglass Original ‘Cello Case. Our assessment is that it is very close. But because we are asked the question we made the 5.5kg / 12.2 lb carbon case. We are now selling significantly more of the 5.5kg / 12.2 lb carbon cases than the 4.7kg / 10.4 lb carbon cases.

As with our Small/Curvy ‘Cello Case the 'cello is supported evenly by 22 individually sized foam pads which are covered in soft felt. Many players ask us to custom fit the padding for their particular instrument. Sometimes there is more than one 'cello to consider and then a compromise fit is arranged.

for bigger 'cellos

​

For very deep 'cellos we have a range of special deep lids to give more clearance bridge-to-back. For tall 'cellos or for 'cellos with large end-pin units we can add an end-pin well at the base of the case which gives extra clearance above the scroll and below the end-pin.

​

Our 'Cello Cases are fitted with superior bridle quality leather handles which are individually hand sewn.  They are comfortable and extremely durable.  They are also easy to replace eventually if necessary.  All cases have a string pocket and two bow-holders. We can fit additional bow-holders if requested. We can also add a sheet music retaining elastic in the back of the case.

Most 'cellists ask for wheels on our Original Case and a few also on our Curvy Shape Case. Our wheels have hard wearing stainless steel replaceable mounts with rubber bushes and good quality ball bearings. So there is reasonable cushioning over bumps. The wheels weigh 480gm.

Extras
Other options include replaceable fibreglass or carbon buffers for the top edge of the case and the bottom corner edges and over the bridge area, these places where cases get most knocks.  We can provide a strong shoulder carry strap or a choice of backpack straps (including the Fiedler system).  Most components on the cases are replaceable; we can send studs, handles and replacement pads for new 'cellos anywhere in the world.

Colours
Most 'cellists ask us to make their cases in white or just off-white finish.  We can make the cases in many other colours on request. White cases reflect direct sunlight so that 'cellos are less likely to get hot inside the cases when exposed to direct sunlight in very hot weather.

Soft outer covers

We supply two types of soft outer cover for our both our Original ‘Cello Case and our Small ‘Cello Case. Our Blobby Cover provides an extra 5cm / 2 inch of protection and our Slimline Cover provides an additional 2cm / 0.75inch of protection.
